The importance of well-being

Modern-day living can be challenging at times; balancing all the daily demands and responsibilities and being in constant ‘go’ mode can lead to feelings of stress and overwhelm. Over time, this can begin to impact our quality of life in different ways, for example physically in our health, and mentally, such as anxiety and depression.

Complementary therapies can provide some much needed time-out away from it all; pressing pause on our busy lifestyles to allow yourself time and space to relax and recharge. A relaxing treatment can help to reduce stress and restore balance, helping you to navigate life’s ups and downs with more resilience and ease.

Reflexology can also offer support alongside conventional medical treatments with many different health issues such as anxiety, depression, insomnia and chronic pain.

Holistic Treatments

You can choose from a selection of relaxing therapies including Reflexology on the Feet, Hands or Face, Indian Head Massage, Reiki and Zone Face Lift - a Holistic Facial experience.

You can also enjoy a combination of any of these - please see booking and prices for more details.

Home. Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a natural complementary therapy that uses massage techniques on the face, hands or feet to stimulate specific reflex points that relate to corresponding areas of the body. Treatments help to increase circulation and bring about a state of deep relaxation, which encourages the elimination of toxins and helps to support the body’s own natural healing processes.

Early indications of reflexology practice have been traced back to Ancient Egypt around 2,500 BC. Reflexology is also thought to have been practised around a similar era in India and China, as well as throughout Africa and by North American Indian tribes.

The development of modern-day Reflexology is largely attributed Eunice Ingham, who built upon previous works of Zone Therapy in the 1900s by surgeon Dr. William Fitzgerald and physician Dr. Joseph Shelby-Riley, to map out corresponding areas of the body on the feet. Ingham also gave Reflexology its name as we know it today.

How does it work?

Reflexology is believed to work in many different ways on many different levels:

Stress relief: Reflexology is a deeply relaxing treatment. When the body is in a natural state (free from stress) it is able to maintain what's known as homeostasis, which refers to a balanced state, and function optimally.

Reflex response: There are over 7,000 nerve endings in our feet, which connect to every part of our body. Thus by applying pressure to reflex points on the feet, this stimulates the nervous system throughout the body, promoting relaxation and enhancing the body's system processes.

Boosts circulation: The massage techniques used on reflex points during a Reflexology treatment help to break down any build up of toxins in the body. In this way, Reflexology improves circulation by assisting in the removal of waste products no longer needed by the body.

Home. Fertility Reflexology

Fertility Reflexology

1 in 6 couples now have difficulties conceiving.

Fertility problems can be linked to many different factors including stress, diet, lifestyle and medical issues, including low sperm count, poor sperm motility, hormone imbalances and conditions related to the female cycle.

One of the main ways Reflexology can help is by reducing stress levels, which can have a significant impact on the ability to conceive.

I offer a specialised Fertility Reflexology treatment method known as Reproflexology to support natural fertility for both men and women.

Reproflexology was developed by Barbara Scott, who has carried out extensive research with proven effective methods by working with couples and alongside medical practitioners to increase fertility, chances of conception and carrying pregnancy to full-term.

Home. Facial Reflexology

Facial Reflexology

Facial Reflexology uses specialist techniques to focus on specific reflex points that relate to different areas of the body and encourage the body’s own natural healing processes in the corresponding areas.

Facial Reflexology can provide effective relief for anyone who suffers from migraines, headaches, or problems related to sinuses, by working directly on these affected areas as part of the treatment, as well as improve quality of sleep by inducing a deeply relaxing state in the body.

An additional benefit is that it also leaves your face looking rejuvenated and fresh by helping to boost circulation and relieve muscle tension in the face, leaving your skin looking and feeling smoother and more toned. Click on Facial Reflexology to find out more!

Zone Face Lift

Zone Face Lift Holistic Facial is a beautiful fusion of ancient and modern techniques using traditional Japanese GuaSha tools, natural Quartz healing crystals and the Bergman Method Facial Reflexology techniques, to create a truly unique experience.

How is Zone Face Lift different from any other facial treatment?

One of the reasons Zone Face Lift is so unique is how it addresses the underlying emotions behind the lines on our faces. We all carry emotions in our body, as well as in our face. You may have referred to wrinkles as ‘worry lines’ or ‘laughter lines’ and it is true how our thoughts and experiences can show on our face.

The transforming effects of Zone Face Lift can be seen after just 1 treatment, with clients reporting feeling uplifted emotionally, as well as looking visibly relaxed, refreshed and revitalised.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage is a wonderfully relaxing and rejuvenating massage applied to the shoulders, arms, neck, head and face – areas where we often hold tension and stress.

By using specialised techniques, Indian Head Massage can help to reduce pain and tension by stimulating blood flow and improving circulation in these areas, helping to improve oxygen supply to the brain and remove toxins from the body.

Please see the Indian Head Massage page for more information.

Home. profile

Laura is fantastic - super professional, whilst being caring and intuitive at the same time! I've had (and am continuing to have) reflexology treatments from Laura at Bamboo Holistics. Feet, hands and face! All of them are amazing. Although I have no specific health concerns, I found the treatments so beneficial for my general well-being - they definitely help me to relax, switch off and de-stress and I have seen a huge improvement in the quality of my sleep, particularly directly after a session. Even after just one facial treatment I could see that having a regular course would have an anti-ageing affect, my skin seemed so much plumper, brighter and more relaxed after the treatment, I really wish I could have these every day! Really can't recommend Laura highly enough. - Lucy J.

Booking Appointments

Treat yourself or someone special to a relaxing treatment with a professional Reflexologist. Please see booking and prices for further details and how to book.

What to expect during a Reflexology treatment

All treatments include a free consultation where we will discuss your individual needs and requirements with how Reflexology can help you.

Treatments take place seated on a massage table with a pillow and blankets to help keep you warm and comfortable, allowing you to completely relax during your treatment. A selection of soothing relaxation music is also available to be played during your treatment if you wish.

Can anyone have a treatment?

Yes! Reflexology can benefit anyone of any age.

There are however certain circumstances when Reflexology would not be considered suitable, for instance:

Contagious or infections conditions:
• athlete's foot
• verrucae or warts on the feet or hands that are not covered by a plaster
• cold sores (for Facial Reflexology)
• if you have a bad cold (coughing and sneezing), flu symptoms or fever
• if you have a viral or stomach bug, please stay at home and recover to avoid bringing this into the treatment room and risking infecting others

Certain medical conditions:
• epilepsy & diabetes may require GP consent
• unstable heart conditions
• recently undergone or about to undertake surgery or a medical procedure

Please note that any medical condition that is undergoing treatment or investigation prior to diagnosis may require GP consent prior to treatment.

How can I get the most out of my treatment?

• Drink plenty of water after your reflexology treatment to help flush out toxins from the body
• Try to rest as much as possible to allow the body to restore itself back to health
• Have an extra layer handy, as you may feel cold after your treatment
• Avoid stimulants such as tea, coffee and alcohol

Are there any side effects?

The effects of reflexology vary from person to person. Most people experience an improved sense of well-being and feel relaxed. Occasionally, you may have a reaction to a treatment and experience some mild side effects, including:

• Temporary worsening of your usual symptoms
• Feeling thirsty
• Increased sweating
• Feeling hot or cold
• Increased urination
• Feeling emotional or upset
• Feeling irritable or restless
• Nausea / slight diarrhoea
• Runny nose or flu symptoms
• Skin reaction
• Mild headache

The above reactions are a sign that your body is trying to rid itself of toxins, and should reside within 24-48 hours.

It is important to note that Reflexologists do not and should not make claims to diagnose, treat or cure. Reflexology should be seen instead as a way of supporting relaxation and assisting the body's own natural healing processes.
